SAVOUR THE WINE AT SUN PEAKS
The “Savour the Sun Mountain Wine Festival” is returning to Sun Peaks Resort Dec. 5 to 9, with a weekend of events for wine-lovers and snow-seekers alike. The festival partnership between Oliver Osoyoos Winery Country, Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Sun Peaks Resort assembles award-winning BC winemakers for a weekend of fun and education, paired with food and hospitality. For instance, “Savour the Sun at Sunburst” on Dec. 6 ($109) is a mid-mountain interactive wine and food pairing event that focuses on wines from six Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country wineries. Sun Peaks is located near to Kamloops, BC.
WHISTLER HOLIDAY CONTEST OPENS
Tourism Whistler has a contest dubbed “Let Yourself Out” that promises lavish rewards. The holiday starts with a six-night stay in Whistler’s Creekside Village at Evolution Whistler paired with many winter activities. These include a snowmobile adventure into the Callaghan backcountry by Canadian Wilderness Adventures, an aerial tour by Blackcomb Helicopters, lift tickets and premium ski/snowboard rentals by Black Tie Ski Rentals, snowshoeing, spa treatments, meals, and more. The contest is open until March 31.
DISCOUNTED LIFT TICKETS AT BIG WHITE RESORT
Big White Ski Resort is officially open for the 2019-2020 season. The operations team worked to groom and prepare the mountain, so it could open more runs. Until further notice, Big White is offering 50% off single-day
lift tickets, group lessons and regular rentals. The opening weekend at the end of November kicked off with the annual Light Up Big White festival.
JOSIE HOTEL WINS AS TOP BOUTIQUE HOTEL
The Josie Hotel, at Red Mountain Ski Resort near Rossland, BC, has been named Canada’s Best Boutique Ski Hotel at the 2019 World Ski Awards. Located next to 3,850 acres of ski and snowboard trails in the Kootenay Rockies, The Josie invites those who crave adventure with luxe amenities and personalized services. The property was also named one of the top three resorts in the Best New Ski Hotel category. The World Ski Awards took place this year in Kitzbühel, Austria, Nov. 22 to 24.
CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP TO PRINCE GEORGE
The 2020 World’s Women Curling Championship will be coming to Prince George, BC, this spring.
The championships are scheduled for March 14-22 at the CN Centre. Teams from around the world will not only be chasing a gold medal, but will also be trying to help their respective countries qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The Prince George World Championship is the first event that will help decide the Olympic qualifiers.
