Welcome to the jungle at Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club

This 300-suite, adults-only resort embraces the fact that it isn’t oceanfront

The view from my gigantic rooftop – and I mean enormous to the point that it’s larger than a suite and balcony combined at most resorts – isn’t what you’d expect from a typical Mexican retreat. Instead of waves crashing on the beach, the serene pool, day beds and cabanas below give way to mangroves as far as the eye can see.

At Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club, the 300-suite, adults-only resort embraces the fact that it isn’t oceanfront. Its location allowed for a larger-scale resort with spacious suites, cenote inspired architecture and nine pools ranging from lagoon-style options to infinity-edge pools to a rooftop oasis. And, for those who crave beach time, frequent shuttles to Zamna Beach Club are available, complete with a dedicated beach section, a bar and restaurant, all included.

“Obviously, we won’t appeal to the client who wants to wake up and walk on the beach – this is the place for those who are looking for that Tulum-vibe, they’re looking for sustainability, ecological experiences,” Carolina Bellina, senior director of Canadian sales for Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, tells Travel Courier. “It has been very well accepted in the Canadian market.”

The hub of Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is a large circular building, with an adjacent circular building and two interconnected semi-circles, with plenty of nooks and enclaves for privacy. Dining options range from à la carte international restaurants serving up everything from Mediterranean cuisine to Asian and Peruvian fusion to pool-side Mexican classics to a buffet and a café. For added ambiance, Bluewater Grill is a picturesque outdoor restaurant set amongst nature and hanging lights, serving up steak and seafood.

Living large: to feel and live like a baller, the 4,729-square-foot master suite or the 5,511 square-foot lavish presidential suite are pretty epic. For those who want to live the swim out life, that’s another great choice.

We recommend: unwinding at a sound healing session and taking part in the guided hydrotherapy circuit.

The beach is calling

If clients can’t live without the beach, a new offering is the boho-chic Casa Zamna, a 21-room luxury addition located at Zamna Beach Club on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. These guests have access to all the restaurants and amenities of Secrets Tulum Resort while staying directly on the beach.

“It’s more like a boutique hotel. It’s beachfront,” Bellina explains. “For those who want to be on the beach, that’s a great asset. They have the beach, their own restaurant, their own pool. It’s right in Tulum so they can go out at night. It’s a very cute area to walk around.”

For larger parties, there’s also a stunning five-bedroom beachfront villa.
