Guaycura Boutique Hotel goes non-all-inclusive route

IAN STALKER

Baja California’s Guaycura Boutique Hotel Beach Club & Spa won’t likely be confused with a glittery resort in a destination that caters to the nighclub crowd.

And that suits the hotel just fine.

The property is in the town of Todos Santos, less than an hour from Los Cabos, one of the faster-growing tourism destinations in Mexico, and which is much better known.

But general manager Yolanda Contreras says those who visit Todos Santos will certainly find their stay rewarding.

“We would say the city is a must-visit because it offers a unique perspective on Mexican life and vacationing,” she says. “It is located in the middle of the Baja desert but the town was built around an oasis, so the terrains themselves are not similar to those in any of Mexico’s popular destinations. A Pueblo Magico, Todos Santos is rich with history as it goes back to the 19th century when the Jesuits settled here and built many of the edifices that are still standing in the center of town.

“Here life is easy and unpretentious.”

Todos Santos has a large artistic community and many expatriates attracted by its relaxed lifestyle

Contreras says the Guaycura Boutique Hotel Beach Club & Spa “embraces the soul of Todos Santos. We are literally in the middle of town, 3 blocks away from the main plaza and the church. The hotel is housed in a 19th-century red-brick building recognized by Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History as a historic and artistic structure. We are part of Todos Santos’ history.”

Hotel amenities include the Faro Beach Club & Spa, situated feet away from the Tropic of Cancer. The beach club features an infinity pool with a zero-carbon footprint, a poolside grill and bar, and health, wellness and relaxation spa treatments.

Guaycura has two other dining experiences: El Mirador Oceanview Restaurant, known for its spectacular sunsets and views of the Pacific Ocean, and the Sky Lounge Bar, which offers a “trendy and easy atmosphere with views of the city.”

“We are a small property with 14 comfortable and spacious rooms that feature Mexican artistry from the linens to the walls,” Contreras adds. “We stay away from gimmicks to stand behind the soul of Todos Santos and and we are proud to offer this experience.”

Contreras says there are numerous available activities for those visiting Todos Santos, including painting lessons in a town that has numerous art galleries, taking surfing lessons and those there in the December-May period can go whale-watching.

The Guaycura Boutique Hotel Beach Club & Spa isn’t an all-inclusive, with Contreras saying the area “isn’t all-inclusive prone” and offers “many amazing restaurants.”

She adds that hotel guests wanting to visit Los Cabos can easily do do so, with that larger destination less than an hour away. “We suggest you rent a car to be able to access all the many stops across town and on your way to Los Cabos,” she states.
