Dominican Republic resort's offerings include three golf courses
If the old adage bigger is better holds true, then the Dominican Republic’s Casa de Campo resort certainly earns a spot among the best.
The property, located an hour east of Santo Domingo and 45 minutes west of Punta Cana, is a sprawling, 7,000-acre coastal resort that even has its own fire department. Guests are provided with golf carts to navigate the property, which features 315 hotel rooms and 50 villas offering varying levels of luxury. Those opting for upscale villa accommodations may even receive a car.
“Every guest gets a golf cart as soon as they check in and returns the keys at check-out,” says Christopher Stubbs of Ultimate Hotels & Villas, which represents Casa de Campo in this country. Each hotel room includes one golf cart, while villa guests may receive two or three, depending on the villa size. Additionally, the resort concierge can arrange vehicle rides within the property.
Casa de Campo, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, features interior designs by Oscar de la Renta and three world-class Pete Dye golf courses, including the renowned Teeth of the Dog, which Stubbs describes it as “a bucket-list course for many people.” Golf packages and a learning center for beginners are available, although golf is far from the only attraction.
“Many of our guests aren’t golfers, but they’re still easily entertained,” Stubbs explains. The resort’s marina offers activities like sailing, tennis, and spa treatments, ensuring diverse options for all visitors. “Because we offer so many other things, we’ve chosen not to be labeled just as a golf resort,” Stubbs adds, noting that around half of the guests are non-golfers.
Stubbs estimates that 80% of guests are content to stay on-site, thanks to the wide array of activities. They might spend one day exploring the historic Altos de Chavón—a recreation of an 18th-century Italian village with an amphitheater that hosts weddings—another at the spa, or simply relaxing on the 1.5-kilometre white-sand beach.
Despite the resort’s vast size, most facilities are within walking distance. Casa de Campo also caters to different preferences with stay options that include all-inclusive packages, breakfast plans, and European Plan accommodations, making it a versatile choice for visitors to the Dominican Republic.
Tour operators offering Casa de Campo include Air Canada Vacations, Sunwing Vacations, WestJet Vacations, and TravelBrands.
