Home Stop the Swag

It’s time to ditch promotional products that end up in landfill.

For many years now, companies have used live events to give away branded promotional products to attract new customers. It’s time to stop the swag and find more sustainable solutions, our planet is struggling to keep up! Many of these items are low quality and quite frankly very often useless, research has shown;
  • less than 21 percent of branded/promotional items are kept, on average for a year.
  • more than 50% is given away
  • 23 percent is thrown away

A global industry that produces $64 billion of planet destroying ‘stuff’ is unsurprisingly having an enormous toll on our planet, including:

  1. Resource Depletion: The production of promotional materials often requires the use of natural resources such as paper, plastic, ink, and other materials. This can contribute to deforestation, water consumption, and the depletion of non-renewable resources.
  2. Pollution: The manufacturing process of promotional materials can release pollutants into the air, water, and soil. Chemicals used in inks, dyes, and plastics can be harmful to the environment and human health. Improper disposal of these materials can also lead to pollution.
  3. Waste Generation: Promotional materials are frequently single-use items and often end up as waste after a short period. This contributes to the growing issue of waste accumulation in landfills and incineration facilities, which can take years to decompose and may release harmful substances into the environment.
  4. Energy Consumption: The production and transportation of promotional materials require energy, usually sourced from fossil fuels. High energy consumption contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change and global warming.

If you’d like to give something at an event then consider environmentally friendly alternatives, that could help to restore our earth, like planting trees in reforestation projects – Trees4Travel can set you up with a QR code that allows you to gift trees at an event, it also offers a free easy to use tool where a company and individuals can create branded Tree Gift e-cards a great way to build brand awareness and give back to planet and people without filling up landfills!

If you must use products then always consider using recycled materials, opting for eco-friendly printing methods, reducing the use of single-use items, promoting digital alternatives, and encouraging responsible disposal and recycling practices.

Thankfully, many companies are increasingly adopting sustainable practices in their promotional strategies to minimize environmental harm. Together we can make a difference!
