Resort has begun offering summer skiing

Tremblant is inviting schussers to strap on their skis despite the absence of Old Man Winter. The resort, which first became known for its skiing but which now promotes itself as a year-round retreat, recently began offering summer skiing, with a dedicated learning area covered by a synthetic surface. All are invited to try it, with more advanced skiers and snowboarders welcome to make turns and start warming up for the approaching winter.
“This is a brand new activity,” says the resort’s Catherine Lacasse, who notes the hour-long activity, split in blocks of skiers, was at first open 7 days a week from Aug. 18 to Sept. 4, and now is available on weekends alone through Oct. 15.
The trail where summer skiing is held is the Equilibre run, which is divided into two sections (Upper Equilibre and Lower Equilibre), to enable bigger turns at the top, and more braking and balancing technique at the bottom. To access the top of the learning area, there are two “magic carpets.” Guides are present on the track, and equipment rental– skis, boots, poles and helmet, or snowboard, boots, and helmet — is included with access. While accessing the open-air rental center at the top by the magic carpets, chairs are spread out to enjoy the view and watch the skiers take to the slope.
Users are also welcome to bring their own equipment.
“It is 4,880 square meters,” Lacasse reports of the slope used. “That’s 224 meters long by 22 meters wide on average. It’s a 14-meter vertical drop.
“What I like is that not only this will give a glimpse to beginners of the gliding sensation and the know-how to ski, but it’s also a little more physical than other summer activities that we offer,” Lacasse continues of the new venture. “So it’s a nice addition for someone who wants to move and learn at the same time.
“Getting an introduction to skiing in the summer while it’s not cold and you don’t need much gear is something really interesting, I find. It gives a very close overview of what it will feel like to ski on snow, so it can convert plenty of hesitating new skiers to want to try skiing or snowboarding on snow next winter. “
“I’ve tried it and loved every second of it!,” Lacasse adds. “It is a must-try for anyone visiting Tremblant this summer, whether they are skiers or not.”
Meanwhile, Lacasse says that those who aren’t able to try the synethic-material slope this year will be able to do so in 2024, with Tremblant now eager to accommodate skiers and snowboarders even in the warmest season. “Yes, this is the plan,” Lacasse reports of a 2024 return of summer skiing. “As soon as the snow melts, it will be part of next summer’s activity offer.”
