MAKE NO BONES ABOUT IT: THIS SITE IS ROMANTIC

A pair of massive whale bones (pictured above) have an allure for lovey-dovey sorts in the High North. The bones – embedded in the ground to form an arch – are found in the west coast Arctic Greenland community of Sisimiut, and a local guide says they routinely attract newlyweds who like having their picture taken next to them.

Their appeal to couples who have just gotten hitched doesn’t surprise York University botany professor Dawn Bazely, who has visited Sisimiut, while working as an on-board lecturer on an Adventure Canada Nunavut and Greenland cruises.

“I have heard this particular story from several different walking guides in Sisimiut, and one of the main churches is up the steps behind the museum (next to the whale bones), so it would make sense for newly married couples to have their photo taken here,” she says. “For me, the entire museum site is very romantic and nostalgic, evoking the past. It truly is one of my favourite built environments (as opposed to natural environments) in west Greenland, and the museum shop carries the excellent guide: The Wildflowers of Greenland, which is a steal, at around $40,” the botany professor adds.

GOWAY OFFERS ROMANCE IN THE MALDIVES

The middle of a Canadian winter is the ideal time for travellers to consider a romantic vacation to an island paradise.

Enter Goway, with the perfect solutions – the Maldives.

“The Maldives is one of the most idyllic, romantic, and up-market destinations in the world,” observes Mike Bertoia, Goway’s product manager for Idyllic Islands.

Says Bertoia: “The Maldives is the perfect destination for VIP travellers and high-end clientele looking for pure romance and luxury.”

The Maldives is made up of 1,190 atolls (coral islands) in the middle of the Indian Ocean. On a trip to the Maldives, travellers can discover pristine white-sand beaches, explore a fantastic underwater world with snorkelling and scuba diving experiences, or relax in stunning overwater bungalows and suites with private plunge pools.

Goway recommends their 11-day Maldives Escape package, which includes international airfare, airline taxes, and seven nights accommodations in an overwater villa at the traveller’s choice of property.

If travellers have a little more time to spend away on vacation, they should consider splurging on Goway’s 14-day Romantic Paris & Maldives Escape, which offers the chance to take in all that the City of Lights has to offer before heading to the Maldives for a relaxing escape on white-sand beaches.
