Maestro Fresh Wes declares his love for the province

New Brunswick tourism officials say their province has built a following with both those who enjoy Mother Nature and a weighty name among this country’s rappers as well.

Explore New Brunswick, the official tourism organization for New Brunswick, held a mid-March event in Torontoto to showcase the province’s natural side, promoting the likes of provincial coastlines, forests, beaches and waterways.

“If you’re a nature enthusiast, it’s a wonderful place,” Explore New Brunswick’s Katie Kohler told Travel Courier during the March 14 Naturescape reception.

New Brunswick’s natural side is underscored by the likes of an “incredible number” of seabirds; the Bay of Fundy, which sees the world’s highest tides; and this country’s warmest salt water, she continued. Kohler earlier praised an array of New Brunswick attributes.

“Step away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto, and step into the tranquility of a New Brunswick escape,” she said. “From the vibrant culture and rich landscapes to the culinary delights, Naturescape promises the very best of what New Brunswick has to offer, inviting all to explore and be inspired for summer adventures.”

Those attending the event were able to hear whale echolocation sounds, fitting given New Brunswick offers seasonal whale-watching.

Kohler also said those visiting New Brunswick can experience Acadian culture in this country’s only officially bilingual province.

Among those on hand for the Toronto event was Toronto-born-and-raised Maestro Fresh Wes, a Juno-Award-winning rapper, who now has a New Brunswick-based cooking show and who relocated to Saint John three years ago.

The hip hop performer is an enthusiastic promoter of his new home, telling the Toronto audience, “I love New Brunswick… I’m going to give you a tour through my backyard.”

Maestro Fresh Wes was named an ambassador for Saint John by the city’s mayor.
