The highly anticipated opening of Club Med’s first North American mountain resort is now less than a month away. The 302-room Club Med Québec Charlevoix, opening on Dec. 3, will mark the brand’s first resort in Canada, the first all-inclusive mountain resort in the country, and the first Club Med mountain resort to welcome visitors year-round.
“Guests and visitors can expect the same high-quality and peace of mind travelling they’ve experienced at our other resorts,” Jacinda Lowry, Senior National Sales Director Club Med Canada, tells Travel Courier. “Bookings are going well. We are over 80 per cent booked for our opening week and have made great progress on receiving bookings and reservations well into the spring season.”
Club Med anticipates that 70% of all guests in the resort’s first year of operation will be Canadians travelling domestically.
“As travel restrictions ease, Canadians are seeking adventure and new experiences close to home,” she says. “With the opening of Club Med Québec Charlevoix, we are hoping to ignite the passion for travelling by welcoming guests to explore the beauty in their backyard. Canadians will be some of the first to discover the resort, the first to see the uniqueness of Club Med’s all-inclusive concept in Québec and the first to ski the amazing slopes of Charlevoix, with incredible views of the St. Lawrence River.”
In terms of logistics, the best way to get to Club Med Québec Charlevoix is from Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport.
“The drive is about 1.5 hours from the airport where guests can take the scenic route to enjoy all of Quebec’s beautiful sights,” she says. “The property is family friendly and includes a Kids Club. As an all-inclusive, Club Med wants guests to experience peace of mind travelling with the brand where all aspects are accounted for. This includes all ski passes and lessons during the winter season.”
The 4-Trident resort with 302 rooms includes a 5-Trident Exclusive Collection space with 25 suites. During the winter season, guests can take part in outdoor winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and skating.
“While through the other seasons, guests can partake in various adventures including mountain biking, themed hikes, yoga and meditation, mini golfing and many others,” she says. “For those looking for less physical activities, visitors can take part in day trips to neighbouring towns, whale-watching and the various amenities offered on-resort.”
The resort also features many ways to unwind, like a 23-metre long heated pool overlooking the St. Lawrence River, the largest of any Club Med Mountain resort globally, and the third Club Med Spa by Sothys.
“The spa features a Hot and Cold Therapy Pathway with access to a unique snow fountain,” she says.
Notably, visitors will also be immersed in French Canadian culture while soaking up the stunning views of the mountains and Charlevoix region whether on the slopes or hiking its trails.
“Club Med Québec Charlevoix is the perfect place to truly discover Québec’s natural wonders and embrace French Canadian culture,” she says. “Guests can enjoy a range of menu offerings that feature delicious local specialties like the famous tire d’erable (maple taffy). At our family restaurant Terroir & Co. parents and children can prepare and share their own fondues and raclettes together.”
The resort intends to source a lot of the food locally from the region and plans to change up its menus to reflect products in season.
“Being so close to the home of Cirque du Soleil, the resort also offers a range of activities to unleash the inner circus performer with aerial silk and hoops, acrobatics, fixed trapeze, juggling and mini trampoline lessons,” she says. “Club Med Québec Charlevoix is also the first resort to receive the Rainbow Registration Accreditation. Club Med is proud to be a safe and inclusive place for the LGBTQ+ community.”
