Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has put out the welcome mat once again for those wanting to visit the United States by car.
The destination held a Nov. 8 ribbon cutting to symbolize the reopening of the Canada-U.S. border to those travelling by vehicle, with Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce president Karen Riordan saying it’s looking forward to the return of Canadian vacationers to a destination that traditionally sees a lot of tourists arrive by car.
“Let me be the first to say Myrtle Beach welcomes you to the beach,” Riordan said during the ceremony, shown on Facebook from a venue decorated for the occasion with among other things a sign proclaiming that Myrtle Beach loves Canadians.
Riordan noted her destination has some 60 miles of beach and offers “vast, outdoor experiences,” such as golf, birdwatching and shelling.
“Myrtle Beach isn’t just the beach,” she continued. “It’s the beach and so much more.”
Riordan said visitors will be able to try beers produced by new craft breweries.
Also new is Winter Wonderland at the Beach, which runs from Nov. 26 to Jan. 2 and will offer ice skating and other entertainment.
That will be followed by Can-Am Days, which begins in January and runs for months, providing visiting Canadians with numerous discounts.
Riordan also said Myrtle Beach has taken numerous steps to safeguard people from Covid-19, adding safety is a “top priority.”
The area has numerous golf courses, with Bill Golden of Golf Tourism Solutions saying, “We have a tagline — the beach gets golfers. Well, I would say the beach gets Canadian golfers…
“The golf industry here can’t wait to welcome our Canadian friends,” Golden added.
