Another bricks in the wall

LEGO’s creativity is enabling it to build unusual brick walls rather than hitting them.

The Denmark-based company’s newest attraction is the LEGO Discovery Center in Fairfax County, Virginia, which is being promoted as a facility that will entertain youngsters of different ages.

“The entire LEGO Discovery Center team could not be more thrilled to be opening our doors and welcoming families inside,” said general manager Therese Alvich. “We are truly bringing LEGO experiences to life at our new Center! Children will be able to let their imagination and creativity run wild in each of our unique and immersive zones.” 

Zones guests can enjoy include:

• DUPLO® Park – The smallest builders can learn and play, solve puzzles, build with LEGO DUPLO, and go and watch ducklings in the DUPLO duck pond.
• Mini World, which invites visitors to explore and play in a “revamped world of awesome LEGO builds, made from more than 1.5 million bricks.”
• Imagination Express, which enables guests to Travel through an oversized LEGO world on an unforgettable train ride.”
• Make Your Minifigure, which has visitors choose from tons of LEGO heads, bodies, and legs to build a custom mini-figure.
• Creative Club, described as an “Amazing Playmakers (that) give guests a helping hand with daily building activities, from mosaic making to painting portraits with LEGO.”
• Hero Zone, which has “LEGO City meets LEGO NINJAGO® in fast-paced hero adventures, including a LEGO laser maze, a climbing wall, and a crazy action game.”
• 4D Cinema, where guests are invited to “Take a seat in the only cinema that has its own weather system, where LEGO movies come to life and extraordinary adventures begin.
• The Workshop – Meet the team of Master Model Builders as they guide guests through building special LEGO builds. Learn some unique insider tips & and tricks!”
• Space Mission – “Reach for the stars in an extraordinary building experience from LEGO® Tech. Design and build a LEGO spaceship, take the helm and launch into cyberspace. Zoom through the galaxies on your own space adventure, and to make it even more fun, friends and family can also join you on your adventure via the screen,” LEGO says.

“LEGO Discovery Center is only the fourth location of its kind in the world with next-generation LEGO fun where children can let their imagination and creativity run wild with LEGO bricks. The attraction… is the only one in the world with a MINIWORLD featuring a Washington D.C. cityscape using more than 1.5 million LEGO bricks. Some of the famous landmarks include the Capital, Washington Monument, and White House which are next to a fantasy world also made out of LEGO bricks,” said attraction marketing manager Admire Brown.   “The attraction also includes unique experiences, including Space Mission, and experiences where families can create their own rocket and scan it to send into digital space, DUPLO Park for toddler-specific play, Imagination Express interactive ride, and much more. “

LEGO Discovery Center, desgined for those aged 2 to 10, has 12 zones that have a hands-on element,where guests can play, learn, or build memories, Brown adds.

“LEGO Discovery Center offers a highly interactive indoor LEGO play experience where families are free to play, explore, craft, and laugh together,” Brown continued.

Meanwhile, Brown said that visitors themselves have an opportunity to pick up some LEGO building skills while at LEGO Discovery Center.

“The 32,000-square-foot family attraction features 12 zones to discover, including DUPLO Park, Building Adventure, Mini World, Imagination Express, Make Your Mini-Figure, Creative Club, Lego Tree of Imagination, The Lego Café, Heroes Adventure, 4D Cinema,” Brown stated. “The Workshop, and Space Mission. Numerous creative workshops will be planned throughout the year with our brand new team of Master Model Builders.”
