Dramatic desert landscapes surround camp

Calling it a night in Jordan’s Sun City Camp will have you going to bed in a distinctly Bedouin setting.

The camp offers stays in the desert setting of Wadi Rum — frequently associated with Lawrence of Arabia, who used it as a base during the Arab Revolt — hosting visitors eager to overnight in a part of the world that Lawrence referred to as “vast, echoing and god-like,” with the British adventurer clearly won over by its dramatic landscapes, including towering rock outcroppings.

But Sun City Camp’s Jawad Kasim says there’s more to a stay at the retreat than eye-catching landscapes.

“By offering a blend of nature, adventure, culture, luxury, and photo-worthy scenes, Sun City Camp aims to provide a memorable experience for a wide range of tourists,” he says, noting Bedouin influence is visible in a number of ways, including cuisine and accommodations.

“Bedouin experience at Sun City Camp is seamlessly woven into every aspect of our offerings, ensuring a visible and authentic encounter for our guests. From traditional Bedouin-inspired architecture to cultural activities, local cuisine, and warm hospitality, we prioritize creating an immersive and genuine Bedouin experience.”

Among other things, guests can listen to Bedouin music while sitting around a nighttime campfire.

Accommodation options include dome-shaped Martian Domes, described as Sun City Camp’s signature premium accommodation, and providing an “otherworldly experience” inspired by the Matt Damon movie The Martian, which was filmed in Wadi Rum. Kasim reports that the retreat “partnered with a specialized company to construct these unique tents, creating a futuristic and immersive experience for our guests.”

Other lodging choices include The Grand Suite Tent, a luxurious tent option for guests seeking an elevated and spacious stay; the Two-Bedroom Panoramic Suite, billed as ideal for families or groups, and offering panoramic views of the stunning Wadi Rum landscape; and The Bedouin Tent, described as being “rooted in tradition, this option offers guests an authentic Bedouin experience.”

Guests will find such tent comforts as electricity and bathrooms with running water.

“Our accommodations are designed to provide a blend of luxury and cultural immersion. The guest comfort is enhanced with modern amenities, quality furnishings, and personalized service. The unique design of our tents, inspired by Bedouin culture, adds to the overall comfort and authenticity of the experience,” Kasim adds.

Sun City Camp’s futuristic side is further underscored by its large geodesic domed restaurant,  an eye-catching structure that the camp says will further remind visitors of the movie The Martian.

Kasim adds guests can enjoy exploring the surrounding area, which can provide them with a “close connection with nature” in the nearly unpopulated region.

The area’s being free of light pollution means it provides an “incredible backdrop for stargazing. Our camp offers opportunities for guests to marvel at the celestial wonders through guided stargazing experiences,” Kasim continues. Astronomy Evenings that invite guests to “discover the wonders above” have guests use telescopes to “see galaxies, nebulas, star clusters and planets.”

Also available are “exhilarating” desert safaris and camel rides, and those wanting airborne views of Wadi Rum can opt for hot-air balloon rides showcasing the “mesmerizing landscapes,” he adds.

Sun City Camp works with Amman-based tour company Karma House Travel & Tourism, which is in turn used by Goway Travel.
