On May 1, Icelandair will offer direct flights between Reykjavik, Iceland’s Keflavík International Airport and Vágar Airport, making it easy for Canadians to connect to the Faroe Islands — an archipelago that’s known for being home to more sheep than people.

“We are very excited about our new flight to the Faroe Islands starting on May 1. Our new flight will offer the best connections to get there from North America, thereby making it easier than ever for Canadian travellers to visit,” Jón Skafti Kristjánsson, head of sales, North America at Icelandair, tells Travel Courier. “It’s only a 1 hour and 45 minute flight from Keflavik airport.”

Icelandair will operate between five and six flights a week from May 1 through to Oct. 26 departing in the morning for easy connectivity for North American arrivals, including flights from Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax and Montreal.

“The raw and unspoiled nature of the Faroe Islands is magnificent to explore for everyone who loves the outdoors, hiking or having a relaxing time in the charming downtown of Tórshavn. Natural wonders, superb wildlife, unique culture, and fascinating history are just some of the many great things the Faroes have to offer.”

Located midway between Iceland and Scotland, The Faroe Islands are comprised of 18 small islands in the Northeast Atlantic with steep cliffs, epic mountains, narrow fjords and a population of only 54,000 people to some 70,000 sheep. Icelandair is currently offering deals from Canada to Faroe Islands via Iceland, with flights starting as low as $757.

“Starting in May 2024, in addition to launching the Faroe Islands flight route, we are also offering our brand new Faroe Islands Fly & Drive deal, where on select dates, travelers can book a round trip flight from the Keflavík Airport to the Faroe Islands, and a car rental in the Faroe Islands from as low as $1,367. This way, travellers can experience the beauty of the Faroe Islands, while sticking to their travel budgets.”

Notably, he says the travel trade is very important to Icelandair.

“We work very closely with the trade community, travel agents, tour operators and other travel advisors to help us promote and sell the destination,” he adds. “They are an important part of our distribution along with other online channels. We have various programs in place for trade partners that work closely with us with mutually aligned interest for performance.”

For clients looking to experience Iceland as well, with Icelandair’s stopover program, travellers can also stay over in Iceland for up to one week at no additional airfare cost.

“Bookings are going well from our gateways in Canada, mainly from Toronto but also from Vancouver and Halifax,” he notes.

Travel agents can sign up to the Icelandair agent portal here: agents.icelandair.com.
