Spanish hotel chain Iberostar, which has marked three decades of hosting vacationers in Cuba, is promising it will be on the Caribbean island for a long time to come.
The company used the early May Cuban tourism show of FitCuba to update show delegates on its growth, with the company now having 18 Cuban properties.
“Thirty years is just the beginning,” Iberostar Cuba’s Alexys Torres told his Havana audience.
Iberostar now has beach and city hotels in Cuba, with its inventory enabling those wanting to vacation in the Cuban capital to stay in Old Havana, which has UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Its latest property is found on the vacation island retreat of Cayo Cruz.
Iberostar says having both city hotels and beach resorts serves it well, with Torres suggesting during his presentation that vacationers can divide their time between beach and city stays.
“If you like the city — welcome to Cuba. If you like the beach — welcome to Cuba,” Torres said.
He labelled mainland Cuba’s Varadero — Cuba’s premier vacation destination — as “one of the best beaches in the world.”
But those on hand were also told that the many islands Cuba has now developed for tourism provide a “wonderful experience” for vacationers.
Iberostar Cuba can accommodate both families and those seeking an adults-only stay.
Torres said Iberostar’s Cuban operation wasn’t idle during the pandemic, using the time to renovate properties.
Torres said Iberostar Cuba is committed to sustainability and also has “high standards of supplies.”
