Five exciting resorts launching this year

ANN RUPPENSTEIN

As winter storms hit across Canada, warm up with some thoughts of sunny escapes. Here are five notable new hotels and resorts opening this year.

Secrets Impression Moxché and Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen

Two brand new additions are joining AMR Collection soon. Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen is a 485 suite resort opening April 18 and Secrets Impression Moxché Playa del Carmen is a new concept opening with 198 elevated suites in June.

Both resorts are near Playa del Carmen’s famed Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue). Secrets Impression Moxché has 14 restaurants, nine bars, 12 pools and three man-made cenotes. Secrets Moxché has 11 restaurants, eight bars, eight pools and six destination wedding locations.

Sandals Royal Curaçao

Sandals Resorts is making its Curaçao debut in April with the opening of Sandals Royal Curaçao. The resort sits on 44 acres within the Santa Barbara private estate, an exclusive 3,000-acre protected preserve, but is just 15 miles from the airport.

There are 351 rooms and suites across 24 room categories, including two new signature suite categories: the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows and Kurason Island Poolside Butler Bungalows, complete with Tranquility Soaking Tubs. Couples staying in top tier suites will have access to a signature Sandals Mini Cooper.

Rock House Turks and Caicos

Grace Bay Resorts is expanding in Turks and Caicos with the launch of Rock House, a Leading Hotels of the World property, later this year. Set along the rugged, untouched limestone cliffs of Providenciales’ north shore, the property will feature 46 oceanfront villa-style residences.

Each free-standing one-and-two-bedroom home will include private pools and outdoor terraces, bathrooms with outdoor private shower gardens, 13-foot vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors to maximize views of the island’s renowned turquoise waters.

Hotel La Compañía Panama

The highly anticipated Hotel La Compañía will open this spring following a meticulous seven-year restoration project. The 88-room luxury hotel, which dates back to the 17th century, is located in the centre of Casco Antiguo, Panama’s most historic and vibrant cultural district, and marks the first hotel in Central America in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

An UNESCO World Heritage site, Hotel La Compañía was originally built in the 17th century as a Jesuit convent. Situated alongside the ruins of a 300-year-old church, the hotel will be a blend of old and new.

Royal Uno All Inclusive Resort & Spa

Mexican tourism pioneers Royal Resorts are launching an all-new luxury beachfront resort on June 28. Royal Uno All Inclusive Resort & Spa is a 540 room and suite family-friendly resort featuring four bars, five restaurants, two oversized pools, a children’s pool with a water play area, a spa, a kids club and much more.

The resort focuses on authentic local experiences from traditional cuisine and Mexican cooking or mixology classes to a kids club where little ones can learn about Maya culture.
