Over 100 handpicked attendees convened in Los Cabos for the 18th edition of the Los Cabos VIP Summit. The event aimed to connect service providers, hotels, airlines, tour operators, and DMOs, while showcasing the destination’s best offerings.
“The Canadians stay longer—more than double the American visitors—and have a profile much more open to the offerings in Los Cabos, experiencing the cultural, natural surroundings and activities off-resort,” says Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of Los Cabos Tourism.
For the nearly 200,000 Canadians who visited Los Cabos over the past year, the surge in interest in this post-COVID world comes as no surprise. The southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula has long been a favorite for Western Canadians, and now the regional tourist board has placed a renewed focus on Eastern Canada. With a 15% increase in air seats to Los Cabos from Canada, there’s never been a better time to visit “Nature’s Playground.”
In San José del Cabo, a thriving arts scene awaits, alongside some of the region’s most innovative new restaurants and traditional Mexican fare. Spanish Colonial-era buildings line the streets, offering a glimpse into the deep cultural and historical roots of the area. A guided tour from Cabo City Tours brings this rich history to life, offering fascinating insights into the region.
As the sun sets, grab a drink and embark on a DIY or organized art crawl through the city’s vibrant galleries. San José del Cabo isn’t just a tourist destination—it’s a place steeped in heritage.
Cabo San Lucas, on the other hand, is where Mexico’s famous nightlife takes center stage. From staples like Señor Frog’s and Coco Bongo to upscale beach clubs like Sur Beach Club, where guests experience 5-star dining, drinks & live music. In Cabo San Lucas, you’ll also find the jumping-off point for ocean activities, where a surfer and adrenaline-fueled vibe intersects with the glamour of wealthy yacht-goers—all set against the dazzling backdrop of Baja California Sur.
Sustainability & nature
“From its inception, Los Cabos has prioritized sustainability—long before it became a global trend. This started over 30 years ago to keep the destination intact and pristine,” says Esponda.
Driving through Los Cabos, you’ll notice the absence of billboards and high-rises, offering a rare, unobstructed view of the natural surroundings. This unique approach has preserved the destination’s charm and elevated the visitor experience.
Ocean activities
“Los Cabos is a destination defined by three ecosystems: the ocean, the desert, and the mountains,” Esponda explains.
Its geographical location teems with marine life, hosting 39% of the world’s marine mammal species and serving as one of the busiest migratory routes for wildlife.
Departing from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, we immediately spotted seals, humpback whales, and schools of stingrays. Ocean Apex Divers’ knowledgeable guides ensured no sightings were missed. A highlight was snorkeling with thousands of mobula rays gliding effortlessly below us—a truly unforgettable experience against the stunning coastline backdrop of luxury hotels and cliffside mansions.
