Ahoy, ships!

Norwegian Aqua

One of the most highly anticipated new ships of the year is Norwegian Aqua, the newest ship in Norwegian Cruise Line’s Prima Class. Officially debuting next month with Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet as godparent, Aqua will deliver some standout entertainment. There’s a lot of anticipation for Revolution: A Celebration of Prince (an immersive show celebrating the Oscar winning and seven-time Grammy Award winning artist), which was created in partnership with the Prince Estate. For a unique thing to do, look no further than Aqua Slidecoaster, the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide at sea. The onboard spa also has some brand-new features like a clay sauna, IV drip therapy and thalassotherapy loungers, which promote relaxation and improve circulation. Featuring traditional Thai cuisine, Sukhothai is a must-try new restaurant offering.

MSC World America

MSC Cruises is making a splash this year with the launch of MSC World America featuring Drew Barrymore, actress and host of the Drew Barrymore Show, as godmother, and campaign co-star Orlando Bloom set to be on hand at its naming ceremony in April. For a thrilling time, try out Cliffhanger, the only over-water swing ride at sea where cruisers dangle 50 metres above the ocean. Entertainment wise, the ship will debut the first-ever at sea “Dirty Dancing in Concert,” where guests will not only see the classic film but also see it come to life with live singers, dancers and musicians. Foodies will want to chow down at the only Eataly restaurant at sea, serving up high-quality Italian food and wine. Ciao!

Brilliant Lady

Good things come in fours for Virgin Voyages. Brilliant Lady, the fourth in the Lady Ships fleet, will feature four mermaidens – that’s Virgin lingo for inaugural cruises – from New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Seattle. Richard Branson’s adults-only cruise line has garnered rave reviews for doing things a bit differently – including requiring sailors to be 18+. Brilliant Lady will debut with seven new, original productions ranging from Murder in the Manor, an immersive theatre performance that’s influenced by today’s true crime fascination and 1980s murder mystery novels, to Red Hot, a high-energy musical revue through five decades of iconic hits from Virgin Records’ musical catalogue. Brilliant Lady will call on new ports of call for the company, like Bermuda’s pink sandy shores and Alaska’s glacial fjords.

Celebrity Xcel

When Celebrity Xcel launches in November 2025, the fifth ship in the fan-favourite Edge Series will sail with seven brand new experiences. While most of the details are still top secret, Celebrity Cruises just revealed the first new space, The Bazaar. A first of its kind concept, no two days at The Bazaar are the same. The Bazaar is a transformative, multi-level, multi-sensory space designed to erase the line between ship and shore through activating destination-inspired festivals that invite guests to delve into the sights, sounds, flavours, and traditions of the places they visit. Hungry guests can dine at the industry-first Chef’s Table experience at Mosaic. Celebrity’s global culinary leadership team will each develop a dish inspired by their native cuisine to offer a diverse, multi-course tasting menu paired with wine.

Star of the Seas
Also set to make waves when it sails away from Port Canaveral in August is Star of the Seas, the newest ship in the Icon Class. Lots of thrills await at the largest waterpark at sea, Category 6, where six record-breaking slides reach new heights: Pressure Drop, the industry’s first open free-fall slide; Frightening Bolt, the tallest drop slide at sea; Storm Surge and Hurricane Hunter, adrenaline-pumping family raft slides; and Storm Chasers, cruising’s first mat-racing duo. Royal Caribbean will also be introducing the cult-classic hit Back to Future The Musical. The Olivier Award-winning musical will bring a time-travelling adventure to life with some twists. Following in the footsteps – or paw prints – of Rover on Icon of the Seas, Sailor will join the ship as Chief Dog Officer on Star of the Seas.
