Visitors will find many other intriguing aspects of the country

The man who oversees Peruvian tourism promotions in this country wants potential visitors to realize that his homeland’s tourist attractions extend well beyond storied Machu Picchu.

Jaime Cardenas of PROMPERU Canada told a recent Toronto gathering that the hilltop sanctuary of Machu Picchu — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — “stands as an architectural marvel and a lasting testament to the ingenious Inca civilization. A visit to this splendid location will transport you back in time.”

But Cardenas added there are many other interesting dimensions to his homeland.

“Our country is a trove of experiences,” he continued. “From the streets of Lima, our capital with a vibrant culinary scene, to the dry desert landscapes of the Ica region, to the verdant Amazon rainforest teeming with exotic wildlife and extraordinary flora, Peru is a land of contradictions and revelations.”

Cardenas also praised Peru’s “awe-inspiring beauty and distinct heritage. It is a destination that truly encapsulates the essence of exploration and adventure. With its magnificent landscapes, bustling cities, delectable cuisine and a history that spans millennia, our country is a place where ancient customs intertwine with contemporary tourism experiences.”

Peru’s tourist trade got a boost late last year when Air Transat began linking both Montreal and Toronto with Lima, providing the only non-stop service between this country and Peru.

The carrier’s Laura Albrow told the Toronto gathering that there are “so many different reasons” to visit Peru, among them its history, culture, food and architecture.

Among tour operator representatives on hand was Robert Miller of Goway Travel, who praised Peru’s “excellent and diverse product line” that accommodates varied travel styles and price points.

Miller said Goway’s program spans the country and there is “every reason under the sun” for visiting Peru, including culture, nature and holistic experiences.

Those who book Peru will find it’s priced “very reasonably,” he added.
