And the beat goes on… under a tropical sun in this case.

Cuba’s Cayo Santa Maria will host a Nov. 23-25 music festival showcasing 1990s music, with fans of tunes from that decade able to enjoy them in a sunny locale.

Back to the ’90s is being billed as an “epic three-day festival that will transport attendees to the 90s, a golden age of music that left a lasting mark on pop culture. From Nov. 23-25, Cayo Santa María will be the centre of this nostalgic period, where the music, the style, and the energy of the ’90s will be combined to deliver a unique experience.”

Organizers add that the festival will feature an “outstanding lineup of artists who marked the decade of the 90s. Each of these talented artists will bring their unique style and iconic hits to their performance on the main stage, taking festival goers on a journey through their iconic hits that defined an era.” In addition, attendees can enjoy beach parties with international DJs.

“Back to the 90s” is much more than a series of performances, it’s a festival that marks a significant milestone as it is the first time that an event of this type is held in this destination and it’s the second major festival celebrated in this area, with more exciting events still to come,” Lessner Gomes, director of the Cuba Tourist Board in Toronto, said of the event.

Cayo Santa Maria is described as “an idyllic location in Cuba with an unparalleled beauty with white — sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, creating a perfect backdrop for music and fun.”

Cayo Santa Maria is one of a number of islands found off Cuba’s north coast that have been developed for tourism in recent years.

Jorge Delgado of Blue Diamond Resorts — an organizer of the event — noted the region hosted another music festival in August and added “there will be more festivals like this.”

An upcoming festival will be devoted to salsa music, with Cuba being the home of that musical genre.

Festival host hotels are the Hotel Playa Cayo Santa Maria; Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria; Hotel Angsana Cayo Santa Maria; Sol Cayo Santa Maria; Grand Memories Santa María; Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa María; Melia Cayo Santa Maria; Iberostar Selection; Starfish Cayo Santa María; Grand Sirenis; Paradisus Cayo Santa Maria; Roc Casa del Mar; Valentin Perla Blanca; The one galley resort; Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas; Melia Buena Vista; and Melia Las Dunas.
