Water, water everywhere at this Cozumel attraction

Water-fronting Cozumel attraction Playa Mia Grand Beach Park wants to make it clear it’s not a water park, despite offering some of the types of attractions frequently found at water parks.
Among park features are water slides that see users end up into shallow Caribbean Sea water, along with a host of other activities, including such water sports activities as kayaking, snorkelling and riding tricycle-like creations that travel on the water’s surface.
“We have water toys,” the park’s Porfirio Fernandez says of the items that are made available to guests.
Fernandez insists that Playa Mia Grand Beach Park be called a beach park, rather than a water park, citing the type of white-sand beach that it offers guests and which the Mexican Caribbean is famed for.
Park admission entitles people to use the likes of water slides and kayaking and snorkelling gear. There are other options for those willing to pay extra, among them parasailing, massages, “fish therapy” spa treatments, lounge beds, nail treatments and use of motorized Waverunners.
The attraction also has a shopping area. Catamaran sailings are also available. The park notes that a buffet awaits visitors, as dons an open bar serving Mexican drinks.
Playa Mia Grand Beach Park is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Day passes that can include pick-up at a guest’s hotel and ferry tickets to and from Cozumel are available.
The park also has snorkelling tours that are led by certified guides, and include visits to the Colombia Reef and El Cielo starfish sanctuary.
Meanwhile, Fernandez says those vacationing on Mexico’s Caribbean coast who decide to visit Playa Mia Grand Beach Park will find their visits worthwhile.
“It’s a lot of fun,” he states.
