The resort report: what's new in the hotel world

ANN RUPPENSTEIN

A look at the latest hotel and resort news from fresh renovations to brand new properties.

Anantara Veli Maldives Resort

Anantara Veli Maldives Resort reopened on Dec. 1, 2022 following nine months of renovations. The adults-only property now has revamped accommodations, including the introduction of new Beach Pool Villas, a new Villa Host service for all guests, newly redesigned restaurants and a hammam added to the wellness-focused spa. The most exclusive of the resort’s villa categories, each of the six new Beach Pool Villas offer 486 square feet of space, with direct beach access.

Set on a natural island in the South Malé Atoll, Anantara Veli Maldives Resort is only 30 minutes by speedboat.

Andaz Mexico City Condesa

Featuring Tulum-inspired beach-club ambiance on its 17th floor terrace centred around a rooftop pool, the newly opened Andaz Mexico City Condesa offers 360-degree views of the Mexico City skyline.

Located in the neighbourhood of Condesa, amidst many art galleries, boutiques and restaurants, the hotel features 213 residentially inspired guest rooms and suites. The hotel is home to three dining venues like the pet-friendly Wooftop Beer Garden and Canine Club, inspired by its dog-friendly neighbourhood. A selection of upscale in-room amenities from cozy dog beds to a menu of pup-friendly treats will also help to make four-legged friends feel at home.

Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus

Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus hotel in Bayahíbe, Dominican Republic, is welcoming guests back after a complete renovation of its 528 rooms, which took place throughout 2022. This 5-star all inclusive family-friendly resort also updated areas like the lobby, theatre, main buffet, and its club for kids and teenagers. Rooms now offer Chromecast, USB sockets, new reading lamps and a modern key system connected to guests’ wristbands and phones via QR codes. The property is located 20 minutes from La Romana airport and 50 minutes from Punta Cana Airport.

The Lexi

Vegas-bound clients can soon check into The Lexi, a 64-room boutique hotel that’s set to become the destination’s first cannabis-friendly property. Following a multi-million-dollar renovation, the flagship property for Elevations Hotels and Resorts is on track to complete its transformation from the existing Artisan Hotel Boutique this spring. The Lexi will be home to a new Cajun inspired steakhouse concept by executive chef Jordan Savell (Hell’s Kitchen, Season 19), the newly designed Artisan Bar & Lounge, The Lexi Pool (one of Las Vegas’s only European-style pool experiences), and the re-imagined Chapel Room.
