BSAP PROFILE: Meet Michele McIntosh
November 18, 2019

Michele McIntosh

Meet Michele McIntosh. She’s an enthusiastic and hard-working individual who strives to make a meaningful connection with everyone she meets. She loves travelling and studying other languages in her spare time. Michele was chosen to be one of 15 winning Baxter Student Ambassadors earlier this year before completing her Tourism Management program at Capilano University. Now, Travel Courier talks with Michele to find out what she’s been up to and where she’s headed.

TRAVEL COURIER: Where are you now?

MICHELE MCINTOSH: I’m currently working full-time at a motorcycle shop! I’ve received my diploma for Tourism Management and will walk the stage in February. Currently, I am browsing the market for possible careers that interest me, whilst also planning for my trip to Portugal in April!

TC: What initially attracted you to the tourism industry / to the subject of travel and tourism?

MM: What initially attracted me to tourism was Capilano’s program book. I’d just finished my language proficiency in Mandarin and wanted some more schooling in a field where I could use my new language skills, while also working with people, which I love doing. The Tourism Management program was the perfect fit for me!

TC: What is your favourite travel destination, and why?

MM: So far, England is my favourite travel destination. It felt like home, while also having those few quirks that make it so foreign and interesting. I can definitely see myself going back, and even possibly living there in the future. Also, I just really love Marmite!

TC: Where will your next trip take you?

MM: Portugal 2020! My sister and I are taking advantage of Transat’s generous hospitality through the Baxter Student Ambassador Program, and we’re using our trip to Portugal to springboard us over to Spain and France, as well. I’m looking forward to experiencing the history and culture of these European spots.

TC: What did you learn during the BSAP program?

MM: During the BSAP program, I definitely learned the importance of marrying your passions with your work. Preparing for the webinar session was both strenuous and liberating. Using real resources and information, and presenting those in a fun, creative way that stayed true to my nature was a great challenge, and one I still am proud of today. Connection to my work is something that BSAP helped me discover.

TC: What did you learn during the BSAP program?

MM: Start early! Follow the guidelines, but don’t be afraid to add a bit of yourself into your presentation. Stay passionate, and trust in yourself.

Some great advice from Michele! Applications for BSAP 2020 open on December 1. Winning ambassadors will be given amazing opportunities to give them a leg up on the competition in the travel industry.

Industry sponsors confirmed so far for the 2020 season include the Jamaica Tourist Board, Transat, FlyGTA, Elmhirst’s Resort, Manulife, ACTA, TIAO, Skål Canada, Independent by Flight Centre, and Sandals.
