Low-cost Icelandic airline PLAY is inviting Canadians who plan to vacation in continental Europe to add a North Atlantic aspect to their holiday.

PLAY — which added Hamilton to its network last year — reports that it now serves over 26 European destinations. The Reykjavik-based carrier adds that Canadians wanting to cross the Atlantic with it can stop half-way, taking in Iceland’s capital and surrounding environs if they wish as well before continuing to the likes of Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Athens or London.

The airline offers car rentals, hotels and tours in Iceland, including summertime tours that showcase the Northern Lights while others feature hot springs and volcanoes, all three of which are major tourist draws for the country.

“Canadians should consider PLAY airlines for their European travels because we offer affordable, no-frills flights with a focus on safety and comfort. Our flights connect through Iceland, providing a unique opportunity to explore Iceland as a stopover before continuing to various European destinations. Our competitive pricing allows travellers to save on airfare and spend more on their experiences in Europe,” says Sonja Arnórsdóttir, chief commercial officer, PLAY, whose carrier’s just-completed Fall Flash Sale offered Canadians airfares to Reykjavik that started at $109, while flights to other points in Europe that go through Iceland started at $139.

PLAY offers 5 per cent net rates on individual bookings to all travel agents that book through PLAY’s travel agent portal. Agents can request a log-in by emailing [email protected].

“Travel agents should consider booking with PLAY airlines because we offer competitive fares, a modern fleet, and a growing network of destinations. Additionally, our partnership with GO7 and availability on major GDS platforms make it easy for agents to book our flights,” Arnórsdóttir continued of her carrier, a comparatively new entrant in Europe’s aviation industry.

Arnórsdóttir says her airline actively reaches out to travel advisors and provides dedicated support to ensure they have all the information and tools needed to book its flights efficiently.

It now operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A320/321neo aircraft, which the plane livery predominantly a very visible red. Arnórsdóttir says PLAY is experiencing “significant growth,” having doubled its revenue and increased its fleet size and number of destinations.

“We continue to expand our network and improve our services,” she continues. “We are always exploring opportunities to expand our network, including adding more Canadian destinations. While Hamilton is our current focus, we are evaluating other potential markets in Canada. In Canada, we are known for offering affordable flights to Europe with a convenient stopover in Iceland.”

Arnórsdóttir believes its presence in Hamilton allows the carrier to serve the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, “providing Canadians with a budget-friendly option for transatlantic travel.”

“We are excited to continue serving Canadian travellers and look forward to expanding our services in the future,” she says. “Our commitment to providing affordable, safe, and enjoyable travel experiences remains our top priority. We invite travellers to explore Europe with PLAY airlines and experience the difference we offer.”
