Four reasons why clients book with a travel advisor

Travel agents report the number of new clients continues to grow since the pandemic

ANN RUPPENSTEIN

Ever since many Canadians were left without someone advocating on their behalf after trips got cancelled without a refund in sight during the pandemic, the value of booking holidays with a travel advisor has once again come to the forefront. In fact, to this day, many agents are reporting that they are still seeing increases in the number of new clientele coming to their agencies. Aong with having a trusted professional there in the event that something goes wrong, there are many reasons why people prefer to book with an advisor.

They don’t want to go their own way after the pandemic

“I have more new clients now than pre-Covid bookings and it is mostly because they are now more nervous to do this on their own because of rules changing or new travel requirements that never used to exist. Travellers have more questions now than they did before Covid and because we agents worked through some very crazy times when the rules were constantly changing, we now can clarify those rules and questions for our clients.” — Kathryn Fisher, travel advisor, Enjoy Travel, Midland, Ontario

To save time and time is money

“I think there are two main reasons why people choose to use a travel advisor or my services rather than planning their trips alone. Firstly, utilizing a travel advisor can save valuable time on research. Instead of spending hours scouring the internet for the best deals and destinations, clients can rely on the expertise and industry connections of a travel advisor to streamline the planning process. Additionally, working with a travel advisor can often result in better prices and value for money. Travel advisors can access exclusive deals, discounts, and package offers that may not be readily available to the general public. Our relationships with travel suppliers and insider industry knowledge can help clients secure competitive rates and additional perks, ultimately maximizing their travel budget.” — Roy Dong, independent travel advisor, Onvigo

They see the value agents bring

“There are people who truly see and want the value of a travel agent. They understand that travel agents are there to provide firsthand advice and experience. That travel agents are able to support them and assist them, and they don’t have to do things or figure out things on their own. Travel advisors truly build relationships with clients that are appreciated. We understand their preferences and can make recommendations for future travel plans. We have their back should an issue arise and they need support. Repeat clients genuinely understand our value, and are most appreciative for what we do.” — Amy Davoli, the owner of Travitude Travel Group based in Welland, Ont.

They trust the knowledge agents bring to the table

“Travel has changed a lot since the pandemic and those wanting to travel can find it challenging  (and overwhelming) when trying to navigate travel restrictions, travel protocols and understand  booking terms and conditions. The knowledge available to a person who uses a travel agent is  limitless, and what most people don’t realize is that most (not all) of the services we provide are  free of charge. Personally, my client base has increased significantly, and our agency is always  welcoming new clients.” — Nancy McInnis, travel consultant, Mayne Travel Services, North Bay, Ontario
