The resort report: what's new in the hotel world

Checking out the latest hotel and resort news from fresh renovations to brand new and upcoming properties ready to welcome your clients. 

British Colonial

A historic hotel in The Bahamas is getting a fresh new look. The $65 million rejuvenation pays homage to the British Colonial Nassau’s 100+ year history while blending in modern sophistication and updated elements. The new-look hotel will reopen in late 2023 with 288 newly redesigned rooms, including 23 suites. Food and drink options will include a martini bar, a fine-dining restaurant, a sushi and noodle bar and more.

Kurulu Bay

Sri Lanka-bound clients can experience Kurulu Bay, a 14-suite and cottage eco-resort and spa that recently opened along the banks of Koggala Lake.

The property is a 13-minute drive, or short tuk tuk ride to the buzzing town of Ahangama, known for being a surfer’s paradise. Accommodations range from one and two-bedroom villas, raised tree houses, local cottages and garden suites, as well as a three-bedroom house that can be rented as a private space, but is primarily used to host events and retreats.

NH Collection Heidelberg

NH Collection Heidelberg has a fresh new feel after undergoing extensive renovations pairing original elements of the brewery in which the hotel is housed with modern updates. The168 guest rooms and suites feature gold and grey decor and balances old and new, with the brewery’s history and charm preserved in the historic part of the hotel.

Set in the heart of the city, NH Collection Heidelberg is perfectly located for clients looking to explore the enchanting city and cultural centr. Located in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Heidelberg boasts Germany’s oldest university, a baroque old town and a castle, and attracts 11.9 million visitors annually.

Six Senses Megalonisos

Six Senses will open its first Greek resort in partnership with Grivalia Hospitality, a significant investor in the ultra-luxury hospitality sector in Greece. It will be located on a southerly white-sand cove on Megalonisos, one of the 10 Petalioi islands and islets with some of the finest undiscovered beaches in what’s known as the “Greek Maldives”.

Six Senses Megalonisos will be a short boat ride from the port of Rafina, just across the mainland from Athens, or Marmari on Evia’s West coast. There will be 75 guest villas and 20 branded residences. The three restaurants include all-day dining, a beach bar and grill, and a specialty sunset bar. There will also be a pastry café, perfect for a coffee after a morning dip or sun salutation, along with a boutique.

The 1,700 square-meter Six Senses Spa will offer multiple treatment rooms, including four double sensory suites, a Watsu for a range of hydro therapies, and a Hammam for a warm herbal steam and body scrub. The target open date has been set for the end of 2027.

OCN Resorts & Residences

A new luxury resort is set to makes its debut in Mexico’s Puerto Escondido in summer 2024. OCN Resorts & Residences will be set on Palmarito Beach and will feature luxury vacation villas and units.

Beyond its luxurious accommodations, OCN Resorts & Residences caters to adventurers and mindful souls. From a bioluminescent lagoon, Laguna de Manialtepec, offering enchanting late-night swims to a plethora of water activities under the tropical sun, the resort will have lots of unique experiences for clients.
