The resort report: what's new in the hotel world

ANN RUPPENSTEIN

A look at the latest hotel and resort news from fresh renovations to brand new properties and noteworthy packages.

Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel

Anantara is continuing its European expansion with the debut of Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel in a rejuvenated 19th century building on Nice’s boardwalk. Blending old-world elegance with contemporary luxuries, the heritage property on the Côte d’Azur is now open following an extensive two-year renovation to its Belle Époque-era glory.

Reopening with 151 rooms, including 38 suites (many with sea-facing terraces and balconies), the 175-year-old property features a new Anantara Spa, a seminar space with six meeting rooms and a ballroom, as well as a stylish rooftop restaurant and bar with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Baie des Anges and Old Nice.

The Bolder

Imagine waking up to watch the sunrise over Lysefjord, one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords. That’s the view clients can have at The Bolder, a series of lodges set along 420 acres of untouched land.

The Bolder has just expanded with the launch of three new luxury cabins with memorable views over the fjord landscape that are aptly called Starlodges. The high-end accommodations were designed by architects from Snøhetta. Each building comes with a fully equipped kitchen and promises next level views.

Tabacon Thermal Resort

Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, has debuted 14 renovated rooms and suites. These include four suites with private plunge pools fed directly by thermo-mineral water from the volcanic hot springs on property, marking a new suite category for the resort.

The rooms have been designed in a contemporary tropical style and feature locally made furniture. Guests can also enjoy Tabacón’s unique thermal river experience, the largest network of naturally occurring hot springs in Costa Rica. It’s comprised of 18 pools that range in temperature from 75-105 degrees.

The BoTree

New luxury hotel The BoTree has announced its grand opening in July 2023. Located in the heart of London’s West End at the intersection of the affluent Marylebone and Mayfair neighbourhoods, The BoTree will be a 199-room five-star hotel, complete with 29 suites.

Sister property to the award-winning Middle Eight and The Guardsman hotels, The BoTree will open as a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ prestigious Legend Collection featuring dynamic bars; two destination restaurants, one of which will provide scenic rooftop views of the city; a live music club; boutique screening room and fitness centre.
