The resort report: what's new in the hotel world

A weekly look at the latest hotel and resort news including fresh renovations and brand new properties. 

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, an Autograph Collection is a brand-new all-inclusive resort set in the Mexican Caribbean hotel strip. The beachfront resort, which is part of All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy and Blue Diamond Resorts, features 1,005 suites, two pools, an expansive water park with two lazy rivers, a splash pad and pool, 14 water slides and tubes and more. 

Riu Santa Fe

RIU Hotels & Resorts is fresh off of renovating Riu Santa Fe in Los Cabos, Mexico. The five-star Riu Santa Fe is a 24-hour all-inclusive hotel with 1288 rooms spread throughout various buildings and streets emulating a Mexican village.  All rooms have been refurbished following the modern design and simple lines characteristic of the Majorcan hotel chain, aside from those built during the 2018 expansion when the Riu Pool Party area and Splash Water World were added.

Sandals Halcyon Beach

Sandals Halcyon Beach is undergoing a small expansion which will see the addition of 25 butler accommodations. The expansion includes 20 Joli Beachfront Suites built on the edge of the shore complete with private pools and walkout beach access and private pools, as well as second-story accommodations with balconies featuring Tranquility Soaking Tubs.

The resort in Saint Lucia is also getting five new Koko Rondoval Villas, which feature a thatched roof design. The Rondovals will focus on bringing the outside in with windows that span nearly the entire wall, giving the illusion that the villa extends onto the private patio complete with a plunge pool.

Beaches Negril

Luxurious upgrades are coming to Beaches Negril. The property is in the process of adding 12 new and expansive butler suites. The new additions consist of six all-new Firesky Reserve Villas – situated on the beach on the northern end of the resort – each offering an expansive four bedrooms spanning three stories and 3,700 square feet.The  Firesky Reserve Villas accommodate up to 10 guests and feature private oceanfront plunge pools and rooftop decks with dining terraces overlooking the Caribbean Sea. On the opposite end of the resort’s coastline are six new Eventide Penthouse Collection suites, which range from three to four bedrooms and accommodate up to 18.

Paradisus Palma Real

Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort has reopened following a US$40 million renovation. The reimagined resort features 596 newly designed suites including 58 swim-up suites, refreshed adults only areas, new food and beverage concepts and extensive upgrades to the property’s  convention centre. In addition to these enhancements, the property has launched new upgraded luxury services that will debut at each Paradisus location. The resort now offers 58 new swim-up suites.

Mount Nevis Hotel

The Mount Nevis Hotel in Newcastle, Nevis is re-opening after three years. The family-owned and operated hotel underwent a refresh across its 17-acres and all 45 rooms and suites are newly refurbished. There is also a new restaurant onsite led by Chef Liam. Equipped with a 200-year church on the grounds, the hotel also specializes in hosting destination weddings.
