From a new experiential hotel that is set to redefine glamping to a new opening in the heart of Havana, here’s a look at what’s new in the hotel and resort world in Mexico and the Caribbean.
Taking glamping (glamorous camping) to the next elevated level, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has announced Naviva, a new luxury tented resort, to open late this year. The resort will be an expansion of the existing Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita with 15 butterfly-inspired luxury guest tents set in the forests of Riviera Nayarit overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The onsite programming has been thoughtfully curated with the support of local experts and has been designed to allow for heightened personalization – such as one-on-one interactions with the resort’s executive chef; personal training sessions in the outdoor gym; private dinners with sweeping ocean views and bespoke menus; or exploring Mexico’s hidden wine and spirits scene.
Margaritaville St. Somewhere Punta Coco, Holbox Island
Earlier this month, Margaritaville St. Somewhere Punta Coco, Holbox Island officially opened its doors. Located in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the intimate island of Holbox, the boutique property features 39 suites with six luxurious room types to choose from, including swim up suites.
This destination is the inaugural property for Karisma Hotels & Resorts’ and Margaritaville’s newest collection of casual-luxe boutique resorts, Margaritaville St. Somewhere. With a boho-chic style and open-air design concept, the resort is infused with neutral tones and décor inspired by the natural beauty of its tropical home. With no cars on the island except golf carts and buggies, guests are fully immersed in the area’s natural offerings, with complimentary access to the nearby Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve, home to a tranquil lagoon filled with diverse breeds of birds.
SO/ Paseo del Prado La Habana
For travellers looking for a new hotel experience in the heart of Havana, SO/ Paseo del Prado La Habana is now open in Cuba’s capital city. The property opened briefly prior to the pandemic before closing its doors in March 2020 and is now ready to showcase the brand’s playful approach to luxury. There are 250 guestrooms on nine floors, including eight suites, each subtly designed with the creative spirit of one of three dance styles — Classical Ballet, Salsa or Son Cubano. The vibrant property epitomizes the rebellious luxury of this high-end, fashionable lifestyle brand. SO/ Paseo del Prado La Habana is located in one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods of Havana with floor-to-ceiling views of the sea, the nearby Malecón, Paseo del Prado, and an Instagram-worthy rooftop pool.
