My travel style: Cost saver, adventurous, and comfortable.
Countries I’ve visited: Seven.
I chose to study travel & tourism because: Being from a country that is heavily dependent on tourism, I have grown to realize the importance of it and wanted to learn more with the expectation of venturing into the industry.
My greatest strength: Communication skills and being a team player.
My dream job: Tour manager.
The most exciting travel trend right now: Workcation. With most non-essential workers working from home, the regular 9-5 jobs is on a break. Therefore it allows for people to work from anywhere and to work and vacation at the same time.
In 10 years I see myself: Owning my own travel company while exploring different cultures and countries.
My greatest achievement is venturing in the classroom as a mature student to learn about the tourism industry and getting the opportunity to be a part of the Baxter Student Ambassador Program.
Verna Clayton
Most memorable travel experience: First time on a cruise with my family.
First place I will visit post-pandemic: Jamaica, my home country, to visit my family and friends, spending a camping weekend at Holywell park.
On my bucket list: Dubai, South Africa; Australia, Los Angeles and marshalling at a Formula 1 racing event.
Best travel advice I’ve received: Travel is not about going on a plane or lying on the beach somewhere, it is about learning and telling stories.
One positive and lasting outcome the pandemic will have on the travel industry: Travellers will be more appreciative of what the world has to offer after being locked down for so long.
