Staying connected: Switzerland Tourism’s Pascal Prinz
October 26, 2020

Hey, it's

Pascal Prinz!

Director Canada, Switzerland Tourism

How have you been coping during the last few months and how have you been keeping busy?

It’s been a rollercoaster. Nature has helped me to keep a healthy perspective. If this pandemic was a hike, we’re not on the ground anymore. We’re at base camp 2. We can see the summit and will make it up there. Our next project is the virtual Road to Switzerland on November 16-17. The Canadian trade can meet with 30 Swiss partners to learn how Switzerland has adapted and implemented new “clean & safe” travel protocols.

“This year we have all rediscovered the benefits of the outdoors for our well-being. I’m convinced the trend of active vacations will stay. It gives us a mental break from our digital life and the chance to reconnect with our loved ones and ourselves. Secondly, I hope we seize this opportunity to find the right balance between respecting our planet and empowering people to benefit from tourism, also in lesser known areas, in a sustainable way.”

Congrats on your appointment as the new Chair of ETC’s Canada chapter. What are your goals for this role?

Thank you, it’s a big honour. My goals are to bring jobs in Canada and Europe back and inspire Canadians to visit Europe next year. The love of Canadians has certainly not stopped. Operators and agents confirm Europe is in high demand next year. Besides in our existing activities, I see potential for us in Québec and Western Canada.

Tell us about the “I need Switzerland” Campaign and why now is the perfect time to start thinking about travelling to the destination?

We want to give Canadians hope during this nonstop bad news cycle. I invite you to enter to win a fantastic trip to Switzerland at www.myswitzerland.com/canada and www.myswitzerland.com/quebec.

We hope you love the images of the Canadian photographer Mike Sidofsky as much as we do. They give you inspiration for next year. Also, Goway and Tours Chanteclerc are running a Switzerland promotion (save up to 500$) with lots of flexibility on bookings in 2021.

What’s something no one should leave Switzerland without seeing, doing or tasting?

I recommend the Grand Tour of Switzerland by train or (electric) car. It combines all highlights and many hidden gems. You have to see the Swiss Alps, our green boutique towns and visit at least two of our four language regions to understand our country. Beside our chocolate and cheese, try some Swiss wine. My personal pro tip, our cookies are “dangerously” delicious!

What’s something not a lot of people know about Switzerland?

Switzerland is also a perfect place for destination weddings offering breathtaking scenery, unique locations and excellent service. Your wedding photos will look amazing. In addition, Switzerland has great airlift from all over the world.

Is there anything you want to share with travel agents?

I invite you to become a Switzerland travel expert at www.myswitzerland.com/trade. Clean is the new sexy, so keep Switzerland top-of-mind for next year. An external review by TripAdvisor in 2019 shows: In comparison with other European countries with at least 5,000 accommodation reviews, accommodations in Switzerland rank first in terms of cleanliness.

There’s been a lot of talk about the industry coming out better on the other side of COVID-19. What are your hopes?

This year we have all rediscovered the benefits of the outdoors for our well-being. I’m convinced the trend of active vacations will stay. It gives us a mental break from our digital life and the chance to reconnect with our loved ones and ourselves. Secondly, I hope we seize this opportunity to find the right balance between respecting our planet and empowering people to benefit from tourism, also in lesser known areas, in a sustainable way.

Do you have anything to add?

Hang in there, I know it’s a rough year, but we will get through this. Go for a walk every day. It’s free and a great way to clear your mind. Continue to keep in touch with your clients. They will book with you and remember how you have helped them in need.
