What's in a name? Well, this hotel offers a libation that tells of its homeland

The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta has crafted a signature drink with an eye-catching name that clearly reflects the country that it’s in.

Among the offerings at hotel bars is the Spicy Peso, which includes grapefruit juice, hibiscus, and a “fiery chipotle infusion,” helping create a drink that the hotel says, “ignites your taste buds with just the right amount of heat.”

Mexican cuisine is known for its spicey qualities, thanks to its frequent use of chiles, and the peso is the country’s national currency.

Elsa Perez, the hotel’s marketing and sales director, says the Spicy Peso’s name was created by hotel staff: “They just made it up,” she says, adding, “We’re really creative.”

The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta hosts hour-long mixology classes where bartenders teach guests to prepare alcohol-based drinks, including tequila-based cocktails popular with visitors.

“Mocktails” are also available for those who prefer non-alcoholic options.

The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta has undergone an “amazing transformation,” says a Westin official who labels it an “iconic property in Latin America.”

The hotel adds that “every corner is an experience” for guests.

Perez describes Puerto Vallarta as the “most Mexican beach destination,” citing its colonial architecture and cobblestone streets, which provide a contrast to the newer tourist spots that have emerged along coastal Mexico in recent decades.

Meanwhile, Perez suggests that guests taking the Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta’s mixology classes might discover they have a flair for bartending.

“It depends on the talent,” she says. “Imagine the hidden talents people have.”
