Hotel X is now a Destination by Hyatt property

Toronto’s Hotel X is now squarely under the Hyatt umbrella, with the high-rise property known for its location on the city’s Canadian National Exhibition grounds having become the first hotel in this country to be part of the Destination by Hyatt brand.

Hyatt says Destination by Hyatt “offers a dynamic mix of expansive resorts and urban hotels that reflect the diversity of their surroundings – be it oceans, mountains, deserts or fairways, rustic villages or bustling cities – empowering guests to expand their world through a deep sense of place.”

The luxury hotel company has hotels falling under other Hyatt brands in Toronto itself and nearby destinations in southern Ontario.

“We could not have found a better property to launch Destination by Hyatt in Canada,” Scott Richer, Hyatt’s vice-president of development for Canada, told a Hotel X gathering marking the occasion.

Richer added that the Hotel X – which overlooks both Toronto and Lake Ontario – is an “incredible, iconic property.”

Mitchell Cohen of property management firm Westdale Properties in turn said that company “picked a great partner in Hyatt,” which has a worldwide presence in the luxury market.

Among those on hand for the Hotel X celebration was Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who praised the hotel’s location.

The hotel is both on the CNE grounds, home to a long-running summer fair; and close to Ontario Place, the currently shuttered entertainment complex that’s expected to become a spa retreat; and downtown Toronto; and Niagara Falls isn’t distant.

“It’s going to be a great, great, destination…” Ford said of the site. “Hotel X is going to benefit.”

Toronto city councillor Anthony Perruzza in turn labelled the hotel’s location “an emerging destination.”

Meanwhile, Ford was effusive in his praise for Ontario’s capital.

“We have the greatest city, as far as I’m concerned, anywhere…,” Ford said of Toronto. “We’re going to continue building Toronto and we’re going to continue building Ontario.”
