On O‘ahu, the brand’s flagship resort, OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, is a contemporary retreat rooted in Hawaiian culture and music. It recently finished an $85 million transformation, which infused fresh energy and elegance into this iconic destination that was historically a place of healing and rejuvenation for Hawaiian royalty.
Sophisticated property enhancements included upscale residential-style rooms and suites, chic poolside experiences and a fully reimagined Kani Ka Pila Grille and stage – the home of Hawaiian music.
The resort’s new “Wellness Wing,” has a state-of-the-art fitness center, treatment rooms and the first Coral Kids Club in Hawai‘i. The Wellness Wing is located in the Diamond Head Tower, is a five-story oceanfront building that was converted into 23 brand-new spacious rooms/deluxe suites, raising the key count to 658. This includes the oceanfront Voyager 47 Club Lounge, offering gourmet bites and beverages for club-level guests and the Coral Reef Penthouse Suite.
The Coral Reef Penthouse Suite is a two-bedroom pied-à-terre within the resort which is rooted in Hawaiian culture and encapsulates the timeless elegance of oceanfront living. Designed with calming coastal hues and premium finishes, the penthouse suite epitomizes barefoot luxury through a sleek and functional indoor/outdoor design – providing nearly 4,000 square feet of living space, inclusive of the largest oceanfront lānai (patio) in Waikīkī. Accessed via private elevator, the suite sleeps up to eight adults, with three artfully appointed primary bedrooms and three oversized bathrooms, plus a sleeper sofa.
The long-awaited Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman – the beachfront restaurant by Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine Pioneer, Peter Merriman is now open. Monkeypod Waikiki pairs prime views of Diamond Head and the Pacific Ocean with its signature menu of handcrafted farm-to-table food, beer and cocktails. Monkeypod Waikiki is the largest Monkeypod Kitchen to date, with 13,000 square feet on the golden sands of Waikiki Beach.
The architecture of Monkeypod Waikīkī evokes an island sense of place and connects guests to the local culture, complementing the contemporary design of OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. The restaurant’s décor and art feature sustainable materials crafted by local artists and artisans, designed to share a Hawaiian sense of place with guests. Highlights include a twenty-foot glass case filled with found-glass fishing floats, reclaimed wood finishes, and a hand-painted mural by local artist Jeff Gress.
